In choosing a school, make sure it's a good fit for your child and your family. Here are some questions to help you get started:

1. Your student’s needs and learning style:
• What motivates and excites your student about learning?
• Is your student advanced or behind in certain areas?
• Does your student work best in groups or alone?
• Does your student learn best from textbooks, technology,
lectures or hands-on experiences?
2. Your expectations as a parent:
• What instructional philosophy do you support?
• How involved are you willing to be in your student’s school?
• Does the school make you feel welcome?
• How much homework do you think is appropriate?
• What are your discipline expectations?
• What beliefs or values do you want reinforced at school?
• What enrichment activities do you want to see?
• What are your needs for before- and after-school care?
3. The school rating:
• How qualified and experienced are the teachers?
• Is the school accredited by the school district or some other
agency (e.g., the IBO)?
• What does the data provided on the State School
Accountability Report tell you about the school?
